Fur Free Fashion

I received an email from Born Free featuring a program called fffashion (Fur Free Fashion) and noting several retailers who have joined their efforts. One in particular is Donna Salyer's Fabulous Furs. Donna started her company after she heard a radio talk about skinning kittens to make "mink" teddybears (while she was on her way to buy a mink coat). She reconsidered and has become successful running a company which creates beautiful, totally faux fur garments and accessories. Her creations have even been featured in movies.
While a lot of people still don't like even faux fur for what it represents, I try to keep an open mind. I abhor real fur garments, as we have alternatives which don't involve animal cruelty. But certain animals are known for their beautiful fur and if we can emulate its beauty without even touching them, it can be a way to honor them as well. Okay, I know I'm going to get letters for this. I do applaud Donna and the following companies who have joined fffashion. If we could just get people to buy Donna's or others' faux furs, that's one step away (and an important one) from using the real thing.
